Missingno RB

The glitch pokemon "MissingNo."

MissingNo. (# 000) is a glitch pokemon that has only appeared in Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow versions, but many glitchy pokemon in later games are named after it. It is one of the most well known glitches in video game history.

What is MissingNo.?

MissingNo. is a glitch pokemon that appears in the original pokemon games. It is believed to be null data for pokemon that were supposed to appear in the games, but were cut out. It is known for causing one of the most useful glitches, as it gives you over 150 of the 6th item in you Bag when it is seen in battle. Although this part is useful, it can also cause problems in the game's data (ex. the pokemon in The Hall of Fame section become random and sometimes other glitch pokemon, and may cause the game to freeze until it is reset, though many people don't mind). It is commonly seen as a Normal/Bird type. The fact that it is part Bird type, a type that does not exist, may mean that there was intended to be a Bird type instead of a Flying type.

Glitches it causes

MissingNo. is known to cause several glitches among being seen. The first and mosy well known glitch it causes is the "Item Duplication Glitch". This makes the 6th item in the player's bag to increase to 255 if caught, or 128 if not caught. Another well-known glitch associated with MissingNo. is the "Corrupted Hall of Fame" Glitch. It causes the Hall of Fame to show random pokemon (some pokemon the player may not have even captured or seen, as well as other glitchy-looking pokemon). Another thing Missingno. can do is mess up sprites in battles, though luckily, it can be fixed by viewing a non-glitch pokemon's stats outside of battle, and it does not harm the game's data.

Forms

The forms of MissingNo. Top left-normal. Top center-ghost. Top right- Aerodactyl Fossil. bottom left-Kabutops fossil. Bottom right-Yellow version MissingNo.

There are several Forms of MissingNo. in Red, Blue, and Yellow. The most well known and most common is its "normal" Form, which looks like a backwards "L" composed of glitchy pixels. Another Form is its "Ghost" Form. This Form's sprite is identical to the ghosts' sprites seen in Pokemon Tower before the Sliph Scope is obtained. The next form is the "Aerodactyl Fossil" Form. This Form's sprite is a copy of the sprite of the fossilized Aerodactly in the Pewter Museum. Similar to the "Aerodacty Fossil" Form, the "Kabutops Fossil" Form shares its sprite with the Fossilized Kabutops fossil in the Pewter museum. It's final form is only seen in Pokemon Yellow. This form looks like a square of red and yellow glitched pixels.

How to encounter MissingNo.

MissingNo. is seen only through glitches, mainly the "Old Man Glitch" and the third method of the "Mew Glitch".

Name origin

MissingNo.'s name comes from the words "Missing", and "No", the abbriviation of the word "Number", as it has no number (#000).
